Paul Mitchell’s artistic practice approaches the imprint, impression, and relic as catalysts that jolt us from slumber and apathy, revealing the beautiful and tragic qualities that inhabit everything that surrounds us. He creates surreal, expressionist works that become charged with the mystic and sublime. Where image, text, material and object are transmographied into paths that lead us to the liminal spaces of our own psyche. Chronicled within our conflicts and struggles, experiences that may lead us to profound truths.

Paul’s work continues to evolve in horizontal, vertical, and circular paths, branching off of these originating ideas into a multiplicity of approaches that form hybrids of the physical and digital. He continually develops approaches across disciplines, including installation, printmaking, painting, sound, collaboration and performance. With each new series of work he hopes to increase my abilities of perception and diversity of seeing so to further my investigations of this infinitely complex world.

Paul earned his MFA with honors from San Francisco Art Institute with a focus in Printmaking. He earned his Graduate Certificate in Non-Toxic Printmaking, and his BFA in Printmaking and Painting from Rochester Institute of Technology. Paul has engaged in international exchange studies in Printmaking and Art History at Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy. Paul has shown both nationally and internationally, at private galleries and museums, with shows in Canada and Portugal, California, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, and Wisconsin. His work is held in a number of private collections.
