Artist Statement:
My sculpture is constructed, most recently using paper, cardboard, wood, and resin. Color and drawn line play an important role in the work. The making process is essential to the final form. I inscribe and erase, assemble and disassemble looking for combinations of line, volume, balance and color that make sense visually, emotionally, and physically. I have a rough idea of how a piece will look but a lot takes place during the making, which is a process of finding the sculpture. I look for structure and expressiveness, and I like a kind of tension between the raw and the cooked. I’m not as interested as I once was in the idea of permanence. It’s essential to remain open to the unexpected, and in the end I want to be surprised.
