Born in the UK. Studied at Central School of Art, London, Canterbury College of Art, Kent and received her MFA in Sculpture from Manchester in 1990. Specializing in cast metal sculpture as an International  Research Fellow Artist at the University of Minnesota from 95 -98 she is currently Professor of Sculpture at Alfred University, New York where she heads up the National Casting Center Foundry.

Utilizing the foundry as a laboratory to explore the union of concept, process and nature of various materials, my work manifests itself through heat ‘n’ treat practices such as mould making, melting, casting and fabrication. I enjoy responding to molten metal’s transient liquid state, as well as to its weight and permanence; I regard it as a living material as it breathes, oxidizes, and grows, emerging from the mould raw and elemental as if raised from the earth’s depths. Speeding up the work of nature.

I am fascinated by Iron’s virtue as the plastic of the Industrial Revolution. I am investigating the ‘plasticity’ of Iron, the twisted forms allude to architectural wrought iron but could not have possibly been made with a forge, the only way the iron could take the route of these knotted forms is through the liquefying of metal, I enjoy the notion of the molten iron taking a fast paced roller coaster journey through the enclosed mould, like mind, like water, it goes where the body cannot. I am interested in applying these concepts whilst working at the Castle Forge in Salem, Germany.

My endeavor is to capture shifts from the ordinary to the extraordinary, oscillating between the tangible and intangible so it can be ultimately experienced in physical space. As a recent recipient of the Gottlieb Foundation Award and The Joan Mitchell Grant I am recognized for working in cast iron as well as large scale outdoor pieces, exhibitions include: ‘The Avant Garden’ at The Barbican Center, London, Franconia Sculpture Park, MN, ‘Convergence’ in Providence, ‘Grounds For Sculpture’, NJ, ‘Pier Walk’, Chicago, ‘Atmosferric’ Salem Art Works, NY, Pirrkala in Finland, Huian China, The National Metals Museum, Memphis, ‘Nature Rules’, Governors Island, NY and ‘IronStone’ at Kidwelly Castle, Wales.
